Brett Michael Fair, 39, of Putnam County passed away at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Lakeland, Florida and had been a resident of Putnam County for the past 30 years coming from Mandarin, FL.
Brett owned and operated Brett Fair GlassCo in Palatka, having been in fiberglass fabrication for more than 20 years. Additionally, Brett was an experienced woodworker with limitations set only by his imagination. He was often sought after by yacht owners for the quality and passion found in his work.
Brett had a great appreciation for Nature and he enjoyed riding in the woods in his Jeep, snorkeling in Florida’s natural springs, most often Salt Springs and Alexander Springs and kayaking in a kayak he designed and built. He enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Rat Island Yacht Club. He was a very giving person and known for growing his hair long for donating to “Locks of Love”, as but one example. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church and will be remembered by all as a free spirit, having a gentle nature and always forgiving.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gollie Bellamy; his paternal grandfather, William T. Fair, Sr.; two uncles, Gordon Bellamy and Jim Long; and his paternal step-grandfather, Jim Howerin.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Traci Tilton Fair of San Mateo; his father, William T. Fair, Jr. of China; his mother and step-father, Marilyn Bellamy Long and Phil Long of Palatka; four daughters, Chelsea Fair of Palatka, Kaitlyn (Brandon Terrell) Fair of Palatka, Rebecca Fair of Palatka, and Emma Fair of San Mateo; his brother, Jason Fair (Lisa) of Punta Gorda; his sister, Jaime Fair (Jules) of Ft. Myers; his step-sister, Crissy Syvinski (Keith) of Indianapolis, IN; his maternal grandmother, Estelle Bellamy of Palatka; his paternal grandmother, Harriette Howerin of Orange Park; his paternal step-grandparents, Bill and Ginny Pierson; three uncles, Donald Bellamy of Palatka, Bruce Bellamy of Palatka and Mike Fair of Pensacola; two aunts, Rebecca Hatcher of New Smyrna Beach and Jennie Fair of Middleburg; his step-uncle, John Long; and step-aunts, Marilyn Radcliff, Shirley Smith and Jennifer Inman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Barry Beauchamp officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
